In June of 2014, I began working with teams of teachers in grades 7 and 8 in Cincinnati Public Schools as part of the My Tomorrow project. The professional learning experiences are called "Co-LABs" to emphasize the importance of collaboration in this initiative Our goal is to create a community of learning and support for the implementation of 1:1 computing. In addition to technology, the My Tomorrow project is also focused on project-based learning, teaming, and a student-centered advisory approach to academics.
We launched the Co-LAB experience with a two-day kick-off at the end of the 2013-2014 school year. We continued with workshops throughout the 2014-2015 school year. Between sessions, teachers had an opportunity to implement what they were learning with their students. Teachers worked together in school-based teams and received support through school visits, email and discussion boards.
We developed a website - Resources for Teaching in the Digital Age - to support teachers' work between each intensive session. We also used the website to store session materials and templates for future use.
Session 1: Collaboration in the Cloud
Session 2: Digital Storytelling
Session 3: Mind Tools and Gathering Spaces
