Welcome to the Instructional Computer Technology (ICT) Endorsement Program

in Graduate Teacher Education at Northern Kentucky University

The following documents will help you plan a schedule for taking your courses:

ICT Program Overview - A description of all of the content courses in the program, along with information about when the courses are offered.

MATL-ICT - If you are working on a Master's degree in the Teacher as Leader program, use this template to plan your coursework.

Rank 1-ICT - If you are working on a promotion to Rank 1 in your certification, use this template to plan your coursework.

When you reach the mid-point in your coursework (approximately 15 hours), you will be asked to schedule an advising appointment to ensure that you are on track to graduate and to discuss your research project.  At that time, you will complete the 15-hour Advising Checklist.

Master's Degree Research Requirements

Research classes must be taken in separate semesters in the following sequence:  EDG 605 (Introduction to Research), EDG 691 (Applied Education Research), EDG 692 (Applied Education Research II).  You must submit an application for EDG 691 and EDG 692.  It is important -- for both courses -- that you pay attention to the application deadlines.  The application forms (with instructions for submitting them) are linked below:

EDG 691 Application Form - EDG 691 Applications are available to students who have completed EDG 605 and have given some thought to what they would like to study in their Collaborative Action Research Proposal. The application for EDG 691 requires a one-paragraph description of your most likely research project. Your action research proposal will be fully developed in EDG 691. Your EDG 691 application also requires your CITI training certificate. To complete your CITI training, see the link below. Applications for EDG 691 are due to the Teacher Education Graduate Office by July 15th for fall term; by November 15th for spring term; or by April 15th for summer term - no late applications will be accepted. Applications may be hand delivered or mailed to: Teacher Education Graduate Office - Northern Kentucky University - MEP 263B - Highland Heights, KY 41099 If you have questions, please contact your Advisor.

EDG 692 Application Form - EDG 692 Applications are available to students who have completed or are completing EDG 691 and are ready to move ahead with data collection and writing up the final paper. All applications for EDG 692 are due to the Teacher Education Graduate Office by the due date below. When you are ready to collect data and write up your final paper, apply for EDG 692. All applications for EDG 692 are due to the Graduate Education Office by July 15th for fall term; by November 15th for spring term; or by April 15th for summer term - no late applications will be accepted. Applications may be hand delivered or mailed to: Teacher Education Graduate Education Office - Northern Kentucky University - MEP 263B - Highland Heights, KY 41099 NOTE: If you have received your IRB approval or anticipate receiving it prior to the start of the semester then please be sure to submit your EDG 692 application by the deadline, with a note saying that you expect to receive your IRB approval notice soon and will submit it separately.

Before you can submit your application for EDG 691, you must complete NKU's required course on conducting research with human subjects (CITI).  This course will prepare you for writing the Internal Review Board (IRB) Proposal that will allow you to conduct your research investigation in a school setting.  To sign up for training, go to NKU's IRB page and select EDUCATION GRADUATE: TEACHER AS LEADER.  Follow the instructions for registering.  The course will take you approximately six hours to complete (with assessments).  You must score at least 80% on each assessment.  When you complete the course successfully, download (save) the certificate PDF.  KEEP THIS FILE.  You will need to include a copy of the certificate with your IRB proposal and with your EDG 692 application.

EDG 692 should be the final course in your program.  As part of that course, you will present your research to professors and peers on campus.  You will also revisit the Leadership Plan you created in EDG 602 and the Diversity Log you created in EDG 606.  You will write a reflection regarding the progress you made toward your leadership goals and submit that to your EDG 692 instructor.  Finally, you will update the Diversity Log and submit that as evidence of your work with diverse learners during your master's program.
