Photographs and Images

Pics4LearningPics4Learning is a safe, free image library for education. Teachers and students can use the copyright-friendly photos and images for classrooms, digital stories, multimedia projects, websites, portfolios, or any projects in an educational setting.

Pixabay - Use the search field to locate images by subject/topic.  Skip the first row, which may contain images for a fee.  The rest of the images in the collection should be free.

Morgue File - Don't be put off by the name.  It is a reference to print journalism, where the "morgue file" is a file of "stock" photos that can be re-used for future stories.  Here, you'll find excellent photos (royalty free) to use in your project or on your website.

Wellcome Images - a great resource for health professions and nursing photos.

Burning Well - a large collection of public-domain images, organized into photo albums.

National Geographic Photo Galleries - Search by category or browse featured photo-of-the-day images.

Biography.Com Photo Galleries - Search for photos and background information on famous people.

Music and Sound Effects

Danosongs.com Royalty Free Music -  This is a creative commons free/royalty free music for production site. The owner provides direct links to MP3 files that are his original songs. Visitors have permission to use selections if they cite the work according to the artist's requirements (see website for details).

Seven Best Sources of Royalty Free Music - Scroll past the advertisements to the actual article, which will give you background on each of the seven featured sites .

FreePlay Music - There's a great variety of music tracks available at this site.  You can select files by genre, album, and the duration of the piece.  To model digital citizenship, ask students to properly cite the source of any music they decide to incorporate into their projects.  In addition to music, the site recently added sound effects (follow the link top-right on the home page).  NOTE:  According to the terms of use, educators and teachers may use the material on this site freely for educational purposes.  See the website for details and restrictions with regard to web publishing.

Absolute Sound Effects Archive - Select sound effects from an alphabetized list or search by category.
