This page contains links to digital storytelling tools. The tools are free to educators, but most will require that you create an account.
Lightning Bug
This is a great place to get started. The site offers help with finding story ideas and developing those ideas into a compelling narrative.
Photo Peach
Photo Peach allows you to create a story that includes background music, captions, and narrative text.
WeVideo
This is a cloud-based storytelling tool. You can incorporate still images, video, music, narration, and text. Several built-in themes allow you to create a polished product that can be stored online and/or downloaded.
Storybird
Storybirds are short, art-inspired stories you make to share, read, and print. Young writers will be able to use this resource easily--but the creative spirit in all of us will enjoy creating and reading stories using this resource.
Animoto
Animoto provides a free version for educators and students with more than 600 copyright free music soundtracks. This tool allows you and your students to create videos and presentations with dramatic special effects. When you get to the website, scroll down to view examples of educational applications. (The Civil Rights example is a powerful piece to share with your students.)
